Conveying honesty and an episodic sense of self-awareness, James David Wolf's debut release Special on Me and the Machine Records embodies biting wit and personality that too many artists in the folk/singer-songwriter genre lose somewhere between East Nashville and Music Row.
Special contains songs that are not afraid to shine a blazing spotlight on taboo subject matter but the fact that they are also deeply personal allows them to float well-above simple shock value. While many writer's take a "call it like I see it" approach to songwriting, James David Wolf not only shoots straight but does so in a decidedly more musical approach; not unlike Warren Zevon and/or Randy Newman. Some writer's live life while others simply write about it. James David Wolf continues to unabashedly engage in both acts to brilliant effect and Special hospitably gives refuge to the outsider that's in on the joke of the world around them.
